SAMPLE SEMINAR
This following contains:
- A brief outline of a typical workshop (The Financial Perspective)
- An example of an agenda for the workshop
- An example of an agenda for the workshop
Please note that workshops are not in any time-standardized format and may range from a two hour presentation (e.g. Understanding Mutual Funds) to an intensive weekend (e.g. Mergers & Acquisitions) presentation. All presentations are adapted to the corporation’s environment.
The Financial Perspective
Description: The main objective of the workshop is to provide non-financial managers with a comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the firm’s financial management process. The workshop will especially delve into four critical areas: 1) Understanding financial statements, 2) The assessment of the firm’s financial health including performance analysis, 3) Tools and techniques of planning and control: Budgeting, and 4) Investment decisions and the capital budgeting process. The material will fully integrate firm and industry specific information.
The workshop will be interactive in nature. The delivery of the material will be synchronized with specific participant activities. Each participant will receive a workbook. The workbook will contain exercises and mini-cases that reflect the subject matter and allow each person to assess their comprehension of the material. The last session of the workshop will synthesize the exercises and mini-cases into one comprehensive study.
The workshop will be rigorous, and, it is hoped, stimulating. After the completion of the workshop, the participants will have a considerably enhanced understanding of the critical role of financial management in a successful business enterprise. Further, participants will be able, to an extent, to analyze and measure as well as appreciate the financial impact of many of their decisions and activities.
